If you're travelling with a child or teenager, here's what you need to know about boarding rules for each age group:
Do they need a ticket?
No! Children up to 5 years, 11 months and 29 days travel for free. You'll need to pick up the free ticket at the counter before boarding. The child travels on a lap and does not occupy a seat. We are unable to issue free children's tickets through our support channels.
Must they travel with an adult?
Yes, always! They must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. When travelling with siblings, aunts/uncles or grandparents, you'll also need to present the child's birth certificate and a document proving the relationship.
Required documents
The child must present a birth certificate or ID card (if they have one), and the accompanying adult must have an official document proving their relationship to the child.
Can they use a car seat?
For safety reasons, we strongly recommend it! To do so, you'll need to book a seat for the child and bring the car seat along. Check with the carrier for their specific rules on using child seats on the bus.
Important information
- Give preference to physical documents. Digital documents may not be accepted.
- If a travel authorisation is required, you can issue it digitally through e-Notariado.
- For interstate trips, children under 16 may only travel unaccompanied with an express court order.
- For international trips, express authorisation from the absent parent — with a notarised signature — is required when only one parent accompanies the minor. If neither parent is present, a court order is required.
- The general rules above apply to interstate travel. For intermunicipal trips, check with the carrier for more details, as rules may vary by state.
We do not offer free tickets for children through our system.
